Are you looking to upgrade your Home Theater sound to the next level? Among the speakers you should be considering are the Klipsch Reference Premiere line of speakers. The Klipsch RP-150M speakers are small in size, allowing them to disappear you’re your décor, yet they provide intensely bold movie theater sound. In this article we’ll discuss the front and center channel series by Klipsch.
Don’t let the smaller size of the RP-150M speakers fool you. These guys pack a punch when it comes to home theater use. Typically you would set your receiver to output to them as “small”, however you’d be find leaving the setting at large to get the full bass punch from these marvels.
Klipsch Reference Premiere series speakers are the next evolution in their Reference Series line. The upgrades from the old line which lasted for more than a decade, can only be described as natural. Yes, it’s the natural improvement over the old design that keeps the famous Klipsch out-front soundstage we’ve grown to love. Many movie theaters incorporate Klipsch sound technology in their best auditoriums.
Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-150M are equipped with copper Cerametallic™ woofers and a Hybrid Tractrix® Horn which enhances the listening experience to a realism rarely experienced these days in speakers this affordable.
The RP-150M is an extremely sensitive speaker, allowing it to play louder at a given volume control level. This is a great benefit if you have a low power amp or receiver.
The Klipsch New Horn and Grill
Klipsch has re-engineered the Tractrix® horn with a new 90×90 from the old 60×90 which provides a much wider dispersion of sound. The RM-150M “sweet spot” is wider than ever with this upgrade. The now-square horn is complimented with a circular throat horn for enhancing the width even further. This carefully designed and well thought out change maintains the dramatically powerful sound that Klipsch is famous for. The newer, stronger, yet flexible grilles are attached magnetically now. This eliminates the old plastic pegs of which us old-school home theater enthusiasts loved to hate. These new magnets have been embedded within the actual baffle so the high frequency diffraction reduction is superior.

Klipsch RP-250C Center Speaker
Of course no Home Theater is complete without a sonically matched Center Speaker. The center speaker is the single most important instrument in any Home Theater system. Just about all of the dialogue in a film is produced from this single speaker. Of course many other sound effects are “centered” by the use of this speaker too. We’ve all heard how the center channel speaker should be located somewhere below the screen/display, and sometimes located behind a larger screen if it has perforations, but no matter how high quality your center channel may be, if it isn’t firing directly into the listening area, or if its direct path is blocked in any way, even just partially, by furniture the quality will be tremendously compromised. We suggest a lower location while aiming upwards towards the listening position. Move it up a bit if your coffee table gets in the way.
The Klipsch RP-250C center speaker is a dialogue-intelligibilty champion in our auditions. It utilizes the same redesigned horn as the RP-150M creating the cleanest, and most natural sound possible from the enclosure. The two 5.25″ Cerametallic woofers represent the best of Klipsch driver design, with amazing rigidity, and lightweight construction materials, for the most minimal cone breakup and distortion. Combined with the Tractrix Horn-loaded LTS tweeter, it provides speaker efficiency that is pretty much the highest in its class. The specially tunes ports at the rear provide for amazingly fast air movement giving you some of the cleanest and most powerful low frequency responses on the market today.
You can find the Klipsch 150M for much less than the retail price, usually over at Amazon with free shipping as well. Audition them today, and see for yourself the difference they can make in your own home theater
For true sonic or tonal matching, we highly recommend the Klipsch RP-250C for its astonishingly crisp and clear vocals. During a recent re-viewing of the film 300, the sword action, include the sound of metal slicing through the air, was breathtakingly beautiful to hear.
